La antigua fábrica de gas se ubica en el centro de la ciudad, junto al río Lagan. Durante 150 años, la fábrica de gas fue un punto de referencia de Belfast. La producción de gas fue el catalizador del rápido crecimiento de la ciudad. Su cierre en 1988 ofreció la oportunidad de rehabilitar un espacio estratégico, 11Ha de terreno estaban disponibles para desarrollar una zona de uso mixto. El Ayunt. de Belfast en colaboración con "Laganside Development Cooperation" prepararon un Master Plan que con la financiación de la Unión Europea se ha podido materializar. Tras labores de saneamiento e infraestructura, se ha construido un parque empresarial.
