El pozo Santa Bárbara forma parte de un importante centro de explotación que estuvo activo de 1926-1995. Se encuentra situado entre laderas abruptas, en el paisaje protegido de las cuencas mineras del Valle de Turón, donde existieron más de 200 bocaminas. La actuación propuesta por el Plan Director responde al deseo de convertir el pozo Santa Bárbara en un espacio dotacional con carácter museístico. El objetivo propuesto es potenciar las vinculaciones existentes entre medio natural y memoria histórica, en relación a la explotación de los recursos naturales, para crear un nuevo uso que se encuentre entre lo docente y lo museístico.
